Ford has plans to sell the 2014 Mustang GT that stars in the new Need for Speed movie. The automaker intends to put the famous car up on the auction block at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach action on April 12. The money generated from the sale will go to the Henry Ford Health System, which is a nonprofit healthcare system that provides insurance and treatment for a diverse population. The vehicle will be offered at no reserve, with the anticipation that the car’s fame will fetch a high final bid. The Ford Mustang has appeared in over 3,200 movies and television shows over the past 50 years, making it an icon in the entertainment industry. Only a few Mustangs were used in the filming of Need for Speed, with the other ones being in use for promotional purposes. As part of its appearance in the movie, the 2014 Mustang GT was modified, making it a unique car. A custom wide body was designed, complete with extended rocker panels, a larger lower grille, bigger air intakes, twin snorkels in the hood, low-profile side mirrors, and Kona Blue racing stripes over a custom silver paint job. The car is also outfitted with angel-eye fog lights and 22-inch alloy Forgiato wheels. Test drive the Mustang today at Ford Santa Cruz.
“Mustang was cast in a leading role of the movie with screen time equal to many of the actors. Director Scott Waugh challenged our team to give this central character enough personality and American masculinity to take on some of the world’s most exotic cars, just like in the popular Electronic Arts video game that inspired the movie. The new owner of this particular Mustang will take home a rare vehicle, and their bid will increase access to critical health care services,” said Steve Ling, North America car marketing manager for Ford.
During the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction, Ford will be holding hot-lap and ride-and-drive events for the public. People will be able to test out the various 2014 Ford models. The hot-lap runs can be done in a Fiesta ST, Focus ST, or Shelby GT500. The 2015 Ford Mustang and 2015 F-150 will be on display for the first time in South Florida.
The Henry Ford Health System has been in existence since 1915 and today is one of the top comprehensive, integrated health systems in the United States. The Need for Speed video game franchise has been in existence for 20 years. It boasts 140 million games sold. The big screen adaptation stars Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Michael Keaton, and Imogen Poots.
